Jimmy Metzinger M.S. CSCS – Head Strength Coach – Fall Weight Lifting

Coach Metzinger has been involved in weight lifting since he began playing sports at a young age. His father was a competitive powerlifter and began teaching him training principles and Olympic lifts in middle school. Metzinger participated in baseball, football, and wrestling in high school and played college baseball. Metzinger received a Masters Degree in Exercise and Sports Science from East Carolina University in 2011, earned Titleist Performance Institute’s Certification as a Golf Fitness Instructor in 2011, and has been a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (through the National Strength and Conditioning Association) since 2010. Metzinger worked as an intern at the Athletic Performance Center of Raleigh where he was an assistant trainer for athletes ranging from youth to professional skill levels for all sports. During his time there he also worked with the Carolina Hurricane’s Rookies focusing of teaching proper Olympic Lifting techniques and correcting their form. Metzinger also served as a consultant for the NCSU golf team to review program design and correlation to their sport specific movements.

Sport Sawyer – Head Football Coach

Coach Sawyer conducts weight lifting sessions in the mornings prior to school.  This is for athletes who are unable to take weight training class during school hours or following school.  Coach Sawyer is also the weight training teacher at MHS.

Alfie Wheeler M.A. – Winter Weight Lifting

Wheeler earned a Masters Degree in Physical Education from the University of North Carolina at Pembroke.

Brian Emery – Spring Weight Lifting
